Mil Mascaras vs. the Aztec Mummy

I’m not into wrestling or wrestling movies, but I wish I could see this movie when it shows at MU. I helped dismantle (read: destroy/demolish) the set for this movie that was shot in an attic space in the College of Engineering. It was a fun couple weeks of work. Now that space is the home of a DoD lab… Kind of cool.

You are cordially invited to attend the Columbia premiere of the film Mil Mascaras vs. the Aztec Mummy on September 10th in Jesse Hall. This film is the first of three films produced by an interdisciplinary collaboration of Mizzou faculty and students, and it has proven wildly popular with fans and critics on the international film festival circuit and is now playing in limited theatrical release across the country.

Mil Mascaras vs. the Aztec Mummy established film production at Mizzou and was followed by the Academy of Doom, which has just completed its own successful run on the international festival circuit, and Mil Mascaras: Aztec Revenge, which completed filming in May. Collectively these films have attracted national press attention for Mizzou’s new programs in Film Studies and Information Technology (IT). The following from MovieMaker magazine is one example:

Previously, only graduate programs like the University of California’s Institute for Creative Technologies and Carnegie-Mellon’s Entertainment Technology Center trained engineering skills required to pursue careers in Hollywood “magic factories”.

But now, in addition to Missouri’s new IT program, Georgia Tech and Purdue University are offering multidisciplinary undergraduate degrees geared toward the tech-savvy student.

The biggest difference between the media engineering programs at other schools and the one at the University of Missouri is, of course, [the] unbelievably ambitious on-campus movie production.

Come see what all the excitement is about!
