Were you baptized in the Jordan?

Some people shouldn’t be allowed to post their opinions on the internet. Period. Take away their keyboards and lock them in a padded room.

On the internet today I saw a man who claims to be Lutheran post the following, “Did St. Paul were clerical collars?” I’m guessing that St. Paul didn’t wear a clerical. But guess what? It doesn’t matter. Paul’s dress during his missionary journals is not a prescriptive statement.

This internet poster is no better than fundamentalists who claim that you must be baptized by immersion because “that’s how Jesus was baptized!”

My pastor has a great response for them. If you are ever challenged about your baptism and they make the claim that theirs is valid because it was by immersion and that’s how Jesus did it, ask them the following questions:

  1. Were you baptized in the Jordan River?
  2. Were you baptized by John the Baptist?
  3. Did the Holy Spirit descend on you in the form of a dove?
  4. Did a voice from heaven cry out, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”??

If they answered no to the above questions, kindly remind them that they were not baptized like Jesus and to quit speaking.

  1. Matt Phillips says:

He should have responded that Paul did wear liturgical garments.

It’s ironic that those who claim to follow the ‘biblical’ model of immersion don’t actually believe that baptism does anything.

You are absolutely correct Dr. Phillips.

One of the replies was priceless, “Did St. Paul wear a suit and tie so he could be confused with the insurance salesmen and the Baptist ministers?”
